Issue with display (unusual GPU configuration)
I’m sharing this to see if anyone can spot what went wrong. It’s a pretty unusual setup. I tried installing an external GPU on my laptop, but I don’t have any funds left, so I didn’t build a desktop. I used mostly items I already had—some from Amazon credit I received before. Once everything was connected, the only display I got was on the main monitor of the laptop, showing about 10 rows of pixels with distorted colors. The configuration I’m using is:
G751JY ASUS ROG laptop
2080TI graphics card
an M.2 > PCIe x16 external graphics card dock
1600 watt power supply (though I know it’s excessive, just to be honest)
atx power dummy switch on the power supply to get it running.
I’m connecting the GPU via the power supply and adapter, but so far the results are disappointing. I’m trying a few changes because this isn’t my usual setup, and I’m not sure where to start fixing it. The laptop works without the GPU, but I’m using it now just to post this message.

PSU: make, model, wattage (1600 noted), age, condition (new, original to build, refurbished, used)?
History of heavy use for gaming, video editing, or bit-mining?
Are you able to sketch out and photograph (or scan) the power connections etc. that you have made?

You mention "abnormal" which is understandable but only to a point.
It would be helpful to have some overview of laptop, external GPU, power supply, monitors etc. that shows devices, ports, and cable connections.
What drivers have been tried and installed?
More needs to be known.
The power supply is an ETH miner 1600W by qingsea, I've owned it for about 5 to 6 years, though it still works fine. I've checked quite a bit, especially since the components in line are unnamed and cheap Chinese parts. If you need more details, I can share the Amazon link. Regarding the setup, there are only four extra connections being made. This is the closest I could manage to describe the wiring on a schematic.
