Occasionally on my Dell studio xps 8100, half of my RAM isn't detected. After reseating and restarting, it becomes partially reserved by hardware. It functions properly on another motherboard. The setup image below shows my configuration. I have four 2 gigabit sticks.
You experienced the same problem with your Dell XPS 13, so you'll need to completely restart your Windows laptop to resolve it.
