Issue with Dell Precision m6600 blank screen
Hello, today I encountered a message indicating that the USB port was overloaded and couldn’t supply enough power for the devices. After that, the USB ports ceased functioning. I restarted the system and then saw the Dell logo appear, but the screen remained blank indefinitely instead of displaying the Windows logo. I’m wondering what might be causing this issue and how to resolve it. I was using a USB mouse and keyboard on the left port and headphones on the right. I ran diagnostics via F12, which reported everything as normal. While exploring the BIOS settings, I noticed some lagging performance, especially when changing options with arrow keys and when moving the mouse. When the system powered on after pressing the power button, the disk activity LED flickered briefly before stopping. Even when trying to boot from a secondary disk, nothing happened—just a blank screen. My main drive is running Windows 10. I’ve been using this machine for a few years because it lacks a battery. I’m from Latin America and don’t have funds to purchase another PC. Since local repair shops are available, I’m uncertain if they could help. One shop mentioned they might suspect certain issues but would charge extra if further investigation was needed. It seems like a difficult situation—I rely on this computer for my livelihood and don’t know what to do next.
Consider disconnecting your laptop and removing the battery. Then press the power button for 15 to 30 seconds. Check if you can access the BIOS. If possible, attempt to recover or reinstall it. There are instructions available for the M6600 to guide you through the process. I’m not entirely sure this is the issue, but a faulty BIOS could stop Windows from loading.
I have seen this before. If you’re getting loading screen and BIOS pages that are loading in slowly to the point where you’re able to see the screen render from top to bottom and you’re getting laggy inputs within the BIOS, there’s a good chance it’s a failing component between the BIOS chip, controller, or interval timer. The good news is that it doesn’t affect windows once it’s loaded. Bad news is, it can make windows take 10X longer to start up. I know this doesn’t help too much since you can’t get into windows at all, and it’s also strange that nothing reported an error on the diagnostic you ran. How long have you let it sit at the black screen after the Dell logo?
Btw, I think it's completely done, now it's doing all sorts of weird stuff. First the fans didn't start when I pressed power button and now when I press power button only the fans start at max speed and then it turns off but now the disk activity LED and networking LED stay on as long as the power cable is plugged in after it it does what I just said with the fans. I don't if there's any fixing to this now... or any point on trying to fix it that is, it only would be wasting your energy and time I think, but if you wanna still respond anything you can do it still. Also again, I can't thank you enough for trying to help, it means worlds to me man (excuse me if I'm being weird) Later I will mark one or your messages as the solution if that's ok with you, as a thank you
I understand your concern. The mention of the CPU getting hot raised worries about a possible short circuit to ground. I'm here to assist you with any questions you have.
