I had similar thoughts too, but when I visited my favorite used PC parts store, I found a Supermicro dual socket 1366 board for just $25. I was excited about this project! The only issue is that the DIMM slots seem to be loose, and I’ve noticed memory-related beep codes when turning on the machine.

It's just a little bothersome having to open the case and adjust all the dims to stop the beeping. After a week or two it keeps happening again and you have to start over.

Perhaps they could be kept in a steady downward position... I’m not sure, but I think there might be a solution.
