Last evening before bedtime I powered down the PC and applied Windows updates. Now I turn on the laptop and immediately notice the external monitor isn’t displaying anything. It’s set as the main display in multiple screens. The NVIDIA control panel fails to launch, showing a yellow triangle with the message “Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code 43).” When checking deeper, it reveals a miniport driver failure with status 3221225626. In hwinfo it indicates the GPU is between 53-56C and appears to be inactive, though resources list no activity due to the issue. Currently in display settings, the laptop shows “display:1 Wired display” at 1920x1080, 8bit, 1.000Hz. I can only set the refresh rate to 64Hz in advanced settings, but moving the mouse feels sluggish—120Hz should be expected. I’ve cleaned up the DDU settings multiple times, reverted updates, tried downloading drivers from GeForce Experience, and even reset the PC after deleting files, but nothing changed. Since everything worked perfectly yesterday, I’m unsure what’s happening now. Connecting an HDMI cable now shows the monitor still reports no signal. Edit: I forgot my laptop battery has a fault and sometimes I have to press the power button for a hard reset—today I did that too. (Resolved); after restarting, the Windows Update 1070 functioned correctly.)

Consider rolling back the Windows version. It seems the update may have caused issues. You can revert to the previous version using a saved image if available. Without backup copies, a clean installation could be necessary.

Turn off completely, disconnect the AC, maintain power for 30 seconds. If feasible, remove the CMOS battery for a few minutes or execute a BIOS reset. Afterward, perform a fresh installation of the newest NVIDIA driver; this often resolves the Code 43 loop following updates.
