Today I discovered my PC could be in serious trouble. As the title suggests, the power button isn't working. I shorted the two pins to disable it completely, which resulted in the same issue. Without much luck, my PC might be permanently damaged. The only hope left is the "restore after power loss" function. When I turn off and then back on the power supply, it can boot again—but that’s the only option. Do you have any suggestions? Someone recommended a CMOS reset, but that would also erase the restore feature. Will I be stuck with this BIOS version forever until my PC dies when the battery fails? Thanks for any advice.

Verify that the power source (particularly the 24-pin connector) is securely attached on the motherboard. Have you attempted to use a different power supply? When you press the power button, the motherboard transmits a signal to the power source to activate it. This connection can also become faulty. Good luck!

I reconnected the 24 connector but the issue remains unchanged. My brother has a backup PSU so we can test tomorrow. I’ll also short two pins (5V PSW to ground) on the 24-pin connector to start the PSU manually. If that works, it would suggest the defect is on the motherboard side. Best regards
