I bought a used Apple Mac Pro 2.66 GHz for a reasonable price because it wouldn’t boot otherwise. The shipping was surprisingly heavy, but it seems to start up normally now—HDD is running and the startup sound works. However, it always ends up on a white screen with a flashing grey folder containing a question mark inside. I thought this indicated no operating system was found.

I attempted recovery steps, but they consistently led back to that same folder. A friend provided older installation and update CDs, so I tried using those too, but even holding down the C key brings me back to the same issue. I’m new to Macs, but I’m eager to learn, and this purchase was motivated by that desire. Please let me know if you can help. Thank you.
