Issue with Aero Glass for Windows 8.1+ compatibility during startup?
I run Windows 10 Pro on a Dell XPS 9550 laptop that is five years old.
Some time ago, I received a startup message repeatedly. I initially ignored it for many years. Later, someone suggested downloading something or removing the Aero Glass, and the message disappeared. However, about a year later, a similar message appeared each time I turned on my Windows 10 Pro laptop.
The message typically reads:
Red X Mark dwm.exe
Aero Glass For Win 8.1+ Incompatibility issue
Your system version is not supported by this version of Aero Glass. Continue Anyway?
Retry/Cancel
Each time it shows, I click Cancel. Then it displays:
Red X Mark Aero Glass For Win 8.1+ Incompatibility issue
Aero Glass does not recognize your version of DWM (0x7FF3).
I don’t want to report this as it isn’t a bug.
Retry/Cancel
I recall having the same error message before, and I fixed it once but later received it again.
I also experience some lag on my laptop. Could that be the cause? I installed Aero Glass earlier because I wanted a transparent look similar to Windows 7, as I didn’t like how Windows 10 looked at first.
Someone told me the reason for this message is that there’s no longer support for Aero Glass with Windows 10. Does this mean I have to deal with this annoying notification every time or remove it?
