Issue with Acer Aspire x1310 CPU heating up post-paste.
This impressive piece was intended as my new media PC. Everything seemed to be working smoothly after upgrading to Windows 10 and installing Speedfan. The temperatures stayed between 40-45°C, which was surprising given the poor ventilation in the case. The processor is an AMD Athlon X2 215. I decided to replace the old thermal paste, but things took a turn for the worse. The speedfan failed to maintain the required cooling, and even at maximum fan speed, the CPU temperature rose to 70°C. I reapplied the paste multiple times with varying amounts and tensions, but the issue persisted. The PC shut down in an emergency mode, and the final BIOS reading was 68°C, continuing to increase. Eventually, a heatsink screw came loose due to repeated attempts, leaving me confused about what caused this failure. Is the CPU still functional? Should I replace the heatsink? This is really frustrating!
