Issue with 144 Hz on Vega 8
Issue with 144 Hz on Vega 8
I've just acquired two HDMI 2.0 cables as suggested in another of my posts—one for the monitor and one for the TV. I'm trying to ensure I can display 144 Hz at 1080p on this setup, but it's not working despite the monitor and cables performing well on another PC. My maximum is only 60 Hz there. The issue seems to be with this particular rig. Could you help me figure out what's preventing 144 Hz from showing up? Any advice would be appreciated!
Didn't test DVI since I don't have one; only used HDMI. With the HDMI cable connected to this PC and Vega 8, it doesn't reach 144 Hz—only 60. On another setup with RTX 2080, same HDMI and monitor, it does hit 144 Hz. So the issue isn't the cable or screen, that's clear. Could be something else? I'm curious about what might be causing it.
It seems the setup worked initially, but when trying to adjust the resolution, it caps at 120 Hz instead of allowing a higher setting like 144 Hz. The software doesn’t recognize the change from 120 to 144, even though 120 is the maximum it accepts. This limitation might be due to how the system interprets resolution inputs.
many motherboards rely on HDMI 1.4 rather than 2.0 since it remains affordable and widely available; I think this limitation applies mainly to 120Hz displays or possibly another budget-friendly approach.
