Hey everyone
I own a custom-built PC that I haven't used in about a year—it's quite old now. I can't recall the exact specifications, but I'll do my best. I'm completely out of the loop with PCs these days.
The machine has been running at most once in the past year.
Today I tried turning it on and it sounded like it was booting up, but nothing appeared on the screens. I tried switching it off and on again.
I unplugged the RAM, HDD, SSD, and CMOS battery because someone suggested that would reset the ROM—though maybe that's not the case and still nothing happened. When I connected another monitor, it lit up and showed "no signal" before shutting down completely.
The LEDs on the motherboard are functioning properly.
The GPU also lit up when I checked, but all fans were running and the post-bios screen remained blank. I've tested both monitors and they're working fine. I'm suspecting a dead motherboard—this reminds me of a similar problem I had before, which I resolved on another machine.
Before sending it to my local repair shop, I was wondering if anyone has any advice.
It's connected to a surge protector, and it's next to another working PC.
Hope this helps!
Scott
You possess the version known as Asus Crash Free BIOS 3. You might attempt to utilize it to determine whether your system can be restored in case the BIOS is faulty. Seeking a dependably assembled power supply unit with at least 550 watts should help confirm if the PSU was responsible.
Consider updating the bios through a USB from another computer, which is something you might want to add to your checklist. This occurred with a CPU that required a newer bios version.
I'll try this out. I'll rebuild it without the GPU and check the results.
Can you confirm if placing the cap file onto a USB drive is all it takes?
