Hi:
I hope everyone is doing well. Thank you for taking the time to visit.
I recently acquired a used internal UHD drive for my HP Slimfit PC, model ATA HL-DT-ST BD-RE BU40N. It only supports Blu-ray discs and not 4K Blu-ray discs. I’m wondering if I should flash this drive with some firmware. After checking the MakeMKV forum, it seems I need to install a .bin file using PowerISO.
I’m hoping the correct .bin file is HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_ BU40N -1.03 -NM00000-211810241934.
Is that correct?

The drive isn't working with any DVDs, Blu-rays, or 4K Blu-rays.

I didn't pause to check for feedback before taking action, which probably caused the problem and wasn't needed. The main reason these issues happen is often because people update firmware without fully grasping what they're doing.

I'm working with VLC media player alongside MakeMKV and have used this setup before. It worked well when my external Archgon player/writer was safe.
Why didn't I wait? I remember from some time after posting the question that I had done this process years earlier—successfully—with my Archgon.

I employ MediaPlayerClassic-HomeCinema to handle 4k discs. Navigate to File, Open Disc, and select the disc title. It consistently functions.

Consider using the portable version instead of the installer:

It would also be preferable to utilize the SFD Flasher tool instead of the method you employed:

I took that path and attempted a different firmware from a seller, but it didn't work. I plan to contact LG during their working hours today.

Thanks to everyone who provided useful input. I'm collaborating with some members on the MakeMKV forum for the rest of this edition.
