I changed my internet provider and everything has been working well lately until I noticed slower pings in most of my games. I tried blocking all devices on my network, but the issue persists. I suspect the problem might be with the ISP’s routing. I’m not sure how to contact them directly, but I think resetting my IP address could help. Since my IP seems static, I’m unsure if that’s the cause.

Check if you're connected via a wired or wireless link. Also, specify your location.

Based on your access to the router, you might adjust your DNS settings, which could be beneficial. Also, consider updating your router's firmware if possible. However, I can't confirm these suggestions without more details about your ISP, plan, device model, and connection type.

Run a tracert command in Windows CLI to check the path and latency to Google DNS. On Linux, use tracepath for similar results.

DNS plays a minimal role in gaming latency. It mainly impacts delays for large web pages with many requests.

Fair enough, but if you arrange everything correctly, these concerns can be removed entirely. I'm starting from scratch.

DNS problems rarely arise in games; latency is the real concern. You're right, we aim to fix issues, but sometimes we tackle the wrong one. It seems the issue lies with the connection type—possibly cable or DSL, which naturally have higher delays due to their underlying technology.

I'm connected via a wired link from Costa Rica. My ISP is Cabletica, offering 15mb download and 3mb upload speeds.

I rely on Google's free DNS settings for my computer's IP configuration. My internet speed is 15mb download and 3mb upload. I'm using a TP-Link TL-WR940N router, paired with an SB6183 modem. I'm connected via a wired network.

It becomes meaningless if the router relies on your ISP's DNS settings.
