Issue detected with OptiPlex 3070 during initial boot.
Received an OptiPlex 3070 Micro at my previous position, just started working on its configuration. Initially, the machine was operated by W@H agents and had its NVMe wiped before acquisition. Hardware details: Intel I5-9500T, Intel UHD 630 onboard graphics, 8GB Micron DDR4 3200 MT/s RAM, 2666 MB SSD (Kioxia NVMe 64GB), and a PNY SATA SSD. Whenever I try to boot, the system powers on but freezes immediately when an OS or bootable USB attempts to load. The HDD status light flashes twice, keyboard lights dim, and the display spins the indicator wheel half a time before stopping. Occasionally, after leaving it for a while, it resumes operation the next day. Actions taken so far: reset CMOS, replaced battery, cleaned RAM board and connections, swapped RAM, replaced NVMe with SATA SSD, updated BIOS, installed latest drivers. Ran onboard diagnostics and system tests—all passed without issues. Performed MEMTEST/chkdsk, no errors. Swapped power supplies farthest I managed, after letting the machine rest overnight, it booted normally. After that, it hangs indefinitely or triggers a BSOD (0xc000001). I've been using it for about two weeks now and am struggling. Any advice would be appreciated.
Previously I faced a similar problem with a complete desktop setup. The issues were quite comparable to what you're experiencing. I installed Ubuntu on a USB drive and booted it normally. When checking for hardware faults, nothing appeared amiss. After shutting it down, I managed to start Windows 10 and it functioned correctly. I’m hoping this approach also helps you, even if it seemed unusual at first.
I saved Ventoy onto a flash drive with the latest Ubuntu 22.04.2 installed. When trying to boot, I saw a confusing screen—maybe the CPU is having trouble. I also placed a Win10 ISO there and plan to try loading it. Any advice or guidance would be helpful.
Found a comment on YouTube suggesting changes in bios settings and disabling certain features. I stopped at speed step and no longer freezing issues. Still facing problems with display resolution dropping and black screens preventing progress. Unclear if it’s switching to a different display mode or something else since my monitor is HDMI. When the screen goes black, Windows can’t load and I have to boot from media. Left it in WinPE overnight without issues. One problem remains to fix.
