Issue detected with new pc crashing during gameplay but not under stress tests.
I'm dealing with a persistent issue where my PC frequently crashes while gaming. The screen suddenly turns black and the system restarts. With a dual monitor setup, both screens connected to the GPU remain black and the motherboard beeps five times. However, during a crash, if one monitor is connected to the motherboard it shows the login screen again without any beeps. Initially, I suspected a faulty power supply unit, but after replacing it with a new one, the problem continues. I've run GPU tests using 3DMark, FurMark, OCCT, and Cinebench without any crashes. I've also tested my CPU with OCCT and Cinebench, and everything is functioning normally. I've tried resetting the BIOS to default settings, enabled the RAM XMP profile, and even connected the PC to a different power outlet without success. The only recurring error in Windows Event Log is a generic kernel error 41, with no logs appearing anywhere.
My current hardware includes:
- PSU: MSI MAG A850GL PCIE5 Alimentatore, 850W 80 Plus Gold
- Motherboard: AsRock b650 pro rs wifi
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600
- RAM: CORSAIR VENGEANCE DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MHz CL30 Intel XMP
- Graphics: XFX, SPEEDSTER SWFT 319 RAD, RX6800, 16GB
- SSD: Kingston KC3000 PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2, 2 TB
- Cooling: Thermalright PA120 SE ARGB
Welcome to the forums, newocmer! The screen suddenly turned black and the PC restarted. A PC typically restarts because of either an overheating problem or a power supply unit that can't provide enough power when under load. What game are we discussing? Also, what BIOS version are you currently using on your motherboard?
I constructed my initial AM5 setup a few months back and encountered comparable problems. AM5 tends to be quite sensitive with RAM, and my system only functioned correctly after I installed the most recent BIOS from the motherboard support page.
The temperatures during crashes are typical, the GPU hits a peak of 71 degrees and the CPU around the 50s.
As I mentioned earlier, I upgraded my power supply for this reason—it's an 850W unit and should easily manage my setup.
I've also updated my BIOS to the newest release.
While playing on more challenging games, my PC experiences crashes, the screen loses signal and audio freezes briefly before restarting, but the connection remains unstable. This means I must manually restart my computer. In the Event Viewer, the only error appears to be the kernel 41, which isn’t the main cause. I have attempted various solutions: updated drivers, reinstalled them using DDU, disabled integrated GPU, installed the GPU driver from the manufacturer’s site, replaced my PSU and upgraded it from 650W to 850W. I reset everything again, tried using two different PCIe cables, upgraded the BIOS to the latest version, and set everything to default. My system crashes with or without an XMP profile, and I’ve run Memtest86 for several hours. Another key point is that I can’t replicate the crash during stress tests—using OCCT, Furmak, 3dmark, and Cinebench. In some light-hearted games it never crashes, unlike Crash Bandicoot Insane Trilogy and Plague Tale. The most affected game is The Finals; I’m planning to download another GPU-intensive title to see if it causes issues. Lastly, I’ve confirmed all temperatures are normal (GPU max 72°C, CPU around 50-60). I’m unsure if the GPU is faulty, but I want to confirm before sending it for RMA (I didn’t purchase it on Amazon).
