Hello, I’m facing an issue after installing the router. Whenever I begin a download—like for EA Origin or using Jdownloader—it takes much longer than expected, and the internet suddenly stops working after minutes. Even after restarting my PC, I can’t access the router and have to reset everything. Changing the settings back to factory mode didn’t fix it. Please help me resolve this so I can download again. My Router: Fritzbox 7690

The text explains bufferbloat as a network condition where excessive buffering causes delays in data transmission. It references a tool at waveform.com for testing purposes.

It could be important enough to be the reason behind what happened. This occurred when my fiber ISP upgraded my speed tier while keeping the same gateway in place for years. That situation prompted me to learn about bufferbloat and add an extra router between the gateway and my local network. This device let me configure SQM on the EdgeRouter or set download/upload limits via UniFi. What bandwidth are you receiving? Have you recently rebooted the router?

I've completed that task. The router is only a few months old. I've also restored all configurations to the default settings. The performance matches what I'm being charged for, yet it keeps freezing.

I faced a comparable issue with a 7590 after upgrading DSL speeds from 100MBit/s to 250MBit/s. It functioned well for regular browsing but would randomly fail under heavy load. I spent considerable time troubleshooting and had a technician assess my connection. The network quality was decent, just a bit more "noise" needed to handle the increased bandwidth. When things got too hot, the whole device would crash and restart—usually taking a few minutes for it to come back online. You might notice signs after a crash by checking visually or looking at the web interface for empty logs. There’s also a hidden debug guide at http://192.168.178.1/support.lua if you still use the default settings, though I can’t confirm its usefulness without knowing your current setup.
