I intend to set it up on my Thinkpad X301 since Windows 10 feels very slow. I’m thinking this might be a solid choice for my first Linux experience.

I believe Mint and Mint are the top choices for newcomers to Linux from Windows. Both offer a familiar Windows-style desktop, which eases the switch. I tried it recently but prefer Linux Mint with Cinnamon over GNOME (Zorin’s version). The Core release is solid, Pro adds many apps but costs $39. I recommend giving them a shot. This is the most effective way to discover which distro suits you best. I began on Zorin, faced some issues mainly due to its GNOME foundation, then moved to Mint and am satisfied now. My device is a ThinkPad P50 and Linux runs smoothly there.

These distros like Linux Mint, Ubuntu, PopOS, Manjaro, and MX Linux work well for everyday tasks. For newcomers, Linux Mint Cinnamon is a solid choice since it mimics the Windows feel.

I installed ZorinOS and all my apps and updates worked perfectly. My CPU ran much cooler—used to be 75°C idle—and it’s also faster now because there are no background tasks slowing it down. So far I’m happy and satisfied with how simple it is for someone new, especially the boot and shutdown times. P.S. Sorry for the bad English.
