We use cable internet. The main modem is on the upper floor of our home, with two floors above. Recently, the connection on the first floor has been very poor. I tried resetting it by unplugging both the modem and router for a short time, then reconnecting. Afterward, the signal improved on the first floor. However, the internet speed there is now slow or unstable again. For many years, this was usually fine. We installed the modem upstairs, with a Netgear router and a cable modem. Except for the downstairs Wi-Fi, which has been consistently bad lately. The upstairs area works perfectly. What options do I have? Also, how can I test the stability of the connection on the first floor—perhaps by using a laptop to check for drops or slowdowns over time? I know speed tests show speed but don’t reveal reliability. Sometimes people wait a few minutes before testing again and see if the issue persists. This suggests the problem might be intermittent rather than constant.

Consider various bands mentioned earlier and check how many devices are linked to your Wi-Fi. Many people overlook the growing number of IoT gadgets and may not realize their router is outdated. Ultimately, opt for a contemporary mesh system with dedicated nodes placed on the ground floor. I implemented this in my parents' home and they’ve stayed quiet about it.

You can perform a Wi-Fi stability test by checking signal strength and connectivity on your device. This helps determine if your internet connection is reliable in that area.
