Here’s a revised version of your text:

So here’s the situation—I purchased a really good laptop, a ROG ASUS model, while my wife bought an ALIENWARE M17. Both of us bought them used, at a fair price, around two years ago, when they were running Windows 8. They were almost identical back then, with an i7 processor, Nvidia GeForce 940M graphics card, and about 8 GB of DDR3 RAM (my had 6, hers 8). I tried the free update for Windows 10 that appeared, but in short, over the past few months compared to the first year, they’ve become quite unstable—games would stutter, and we both experienced blue screens saying “Sad Something happened and your PC needs to restart.”) So I performed a factory reset on mine. The good news is it now runs smoothly without any bugs or stutters. The downside? Windows 8 is terrible—its interface is really poor. On the other hand, I restored all the manufacturer’s programs for controlling the keyboard and color lights. It seems I didn’t notice anything missing, but they were there again. Now I’m questioning whether it’s better to stick with the original manufacturer OS or to switch to something else, maybe even Windows 7. PD: I did a clean install on both Windows 10 and it helped for a while, but then after a few weeks everything started acting up again. In the end, I decided to keep the original factory version installed.

PD2: If you’re curious about how I managed to reset back to the original factory, I made a recovery USB so we could boot from the factory image as soon as we got both laptops—each came with its own USB drive. And thank you for your time and patience; I appreciate it. My English isn’t perfect, but I tried my best.

I regularly perform a fresh installation of Windows. I haven’t encountered a ready-made version that functions smoothly yet.

I always suggest a fresh Windows 10 setup using the Media Creation Tool. Windows 10 behaves similarly to older versions like 8 or 7, mainly because fewer problems arise. Those issues usually stem from hardware faults or specific software that was added later. The problem is rarely about the operating system itself; it's often due to defective hardware or unnecessary software installed afterward. Avoid using manufacturer-provided OS images—they typically contain extra components that don’t improve performance and may slow your PC down. Windows 8 and 10 generally come with all necessary drivers, or they install them automatically via Windows Update.

Performing a clean install on laptops improves Windows' ability to locate native drivers and controllers for hardware. Previously, you had to search for each driver separately.

Windows 8 and 10 come with universal drivers that function on most systems. The installer will automatically install all necessary drivers. Certain optional features such as microphone, camera, fingerprint scanner, sound, touchscreen won’t load right away; they’ll be fetched from Windows Update. However, essential components like display, networking, and storage operate immediately.

Attempted a fresh setup from a bootable DVD, but had to manually verify drivers and controllers. Windows 10 now handles this automatically, which is much cleaner than Windows 8. I didn’t really notice the difference unless I switched back to an older version. Windows 10 supports most features better than Windows 7, which seems to be the current best option. Most of my work and support needs are for Windows 10. On hardware side, I ran some tests on the laptop and individual components, all showing positive results. The only exceptions were gaming via Steam Watching or anime, and browsing with Netflix or CrunchyRoll—still using Chrome and editing videos with Adobe Premiere. I installed just the keyboard lightning controller on both devices but plan to do a full clean install of Windows 10. I’m curious if it updates drivers automatically after a reset. Will give it my all and hope you’re doing well too! Thanks for your help and time!

Windows 10 performs exceptionally well. It remains user-friendly despite its complexity.

The only system I’d recommend setting up manually is graphics—obtain it directly from AMD or NVIDIA. Graphics drivers are often updated regularly; while Windows Update can apply them, it may not always get the newest version. It could also fail to install all features or certain applications. Additionally, specialized gear such as audio interfaces, RGB software, motherboard modules typically require distinct programs for setup or configuration, which Windows usually doesn’t provide.
