Is your Asus CN60 Chromebox showing no video? Can you fix it yourself, or do you need a repair shop to help out?
I have an Asus Chromebox, which we used as a Google Meet room back in the day. I don't remember exactly what went wrong, and there might have been a power surge at the same time that took out other stuff too. So the CN60 got marked for retirement. I tried to fix it up for a little while before putting it away, but nothing worked after that. When I pulled it back out today, hoping to save it from going forever, things aren't getting better or worse on their own. There is no video coming out (I checked both HDMI and DisplayPort, picked the right display source, etc.), and there are some slow white power LED blinks when I try to turn it on. If I remove the power completely and press reset while turning it back on, nothing happens either. I searched for recovery guides but only found factory resets or "power washing" instructions for devices that still show video. I also looked up CN60 blink codes but couldn't find anything useful there. Would anyone have ideas to bring this machine back to life or point me to better help groups? Thanks a lot!
If something huge just fried your computer, you'd probably have to check the motherboard and its wiring plans. You could use a multimeter to poke around and find exactly which part is causing the short circuit... but honestly? It's smarter to throw all that energy away and get a new laptop or even a Chromebook instead of trying to fix it now.
OK, thanks. I was also thinking these Chromeboxes are likely e-waste now. To figure out how to reset or wipe the SSDs, generally nothing sensitive on them (both are Chromeboxes for meetings), but there might be some Google account info or credentials... By the way, they aren't laptops or Chromebooks.
