Hello everyone,
I own a Windows 11 machine with two monitors and limited desk space. Recent changes at work are altering our setup; instead of using LogMeIn to connect remotely, we’ll now access the office PC directly. I usually prefer working on just one monitor, reserving the other for background activities like podcasts or YouTube. The previous method was straightforward since LogMeIn behaves like a separate window I could move and resize.

With two PCs now, I’m trying to figure out how to maintain a similar layout while minimizing cable management. That’s why I came up with a plan: I’d buy an HDMI switcher, connect the work PC into it, and use the cable from my personal PC for the second monitor. Then, I’d switch the window on my personal PC to single-monitor mode, using my main PC as the primary display. Only when needed would I plug the switcher into the second monitor.

I’m unfamiliar with this setup before and was hoping someone could confirm if it would work as expected.
I understand it’s not the most refined solution, but I’ve heard about KVM devices too, which might be worth exploring. However, I’m unsure how quickly or easily I could switch between them for quick transitions—like working for a few hours and then switching for lunch, reading news, or playing games.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Which model monitor are you operating? Does it support several inputs? If yes, you can change between them using buttons on the monitor. Connect one computer to input #1 and another to input #2.

I'm a bit embarrassed not considering that. I could just switch which monitor I use since they're different. The main one is an MSI Optix MAG274QRF-QD with several inputs, while the other is an HP M22F FHD. I'll work on the main one and save the rest to the secondary. Thanks for your help!
