I notice it’s making my computer feel sluggish and slow, affecting how quickly it boots and responds. It seems like the system is running Windows 98, which isn’t ideal for modern tasks, even though I’m focused on aesthetics rather than performance.

The variation in performance remains minimal on a computer equipped with a current CPU and GPU.

Windows 8.1 runs smoothly, so I stick with it.

You could be, though perhaps you're someone who relies on an old machine. Who knows? For me, everything feels very fast once I have it.

Could you be okay without it? Maybe go with W8 instead.

It's frustrating. My school laptop has a 4700MQ with an i7 quad-core processor and 8GB RAM. In power-saving mode, loading something as large as 100 pictures took about three minutes, but switching to high performance cut it down to just 20 seconds. That’s quite a difference.
