I have an Asus Maximus vii impact motherboard with a 4790k CPU, 16 gigabytes of DDR3 1600 memory, a Corsair 600W platinum certified power supply, and a Gigabyte GTX1070 mini recently added. I purchased a 4K monitor and am wondering if it’s sufficient for Ultimate Config. If I need to switch platforms, which one should I consider?

The CPU handles 4K well, yet the GTX 1070 faces challenges.

4k ultra could seem excessive, yet 4k mid/high might still be achievable

no, i have the same setup without the 4k monitor,
4790k, z87 Msi gaming 5, Asus 1070 Strix, 16 gb ddr3 1600, corsair RM 850, but it depends on what you do,
i manage VFX works and video editing smoothly, only needing more RAM if needed.
for 4k Ultra games it’s a bit old, the 4790k has a slight bottleneck, but it’s not a big issue.
if you can swap one part, go for a 2080 or 2080Ti graphics card, and you should handle 4k gaming at around 60 fps with adjustments.
edit : your CPU will definitely struggle with 4k, i work on 4k files, but a 2080ti would be more than sufficient to overcome that.

I believe he's referring to 4K gaming, and his CPU should handle it, but the GPU might not be strong enough.

my system works best with a 200mm graphics card, so...
could upgrading to an e3 xeon and rtx2070 mini make a difference?

this means 2080ti would be sufficient for gaming, though i meant editing footage that would be challenging

why not opt for a standard 8700k instead? also 2070 is essentially 1080, so it would still face challenges with 4k 60. skip the mini, since rtx cards tend to run hotter than grx cards.
