Hello everyone, here’s a boost of confidence for you. Upgrading from your current setup sounds like a smart move—your experience with the 8700 is solid, and this new path offers better performance potential. The transition to DDR5 is definitely worth considering. Just keep in mind the cost of the B650 motherboards, but they’re a worthwhile investment if you’re aiming for future upgrades. You’ve got flexibility with AM4 processors later on, so feel free to adjust as needed. Keep pushing forward!

Whats the problem with the 8700? If it's a k try ocing for a bit more performance. Id honestly wait for the new x3D amd stuff or new intel stuff. As currently am5 is way overpriced for what it offer and 13th gen is far more good for the money also more performant. Also dont bother with ddr5 unless you go 6000+. Its quite slow for what it is and can be seen as the same classes of first gen ddr4 2133-2666mhz. Not something you wanna use in a later system.

I recommend heading to Intel right away. The 7600x offers little value for entry-level AM5 builds due to its unnecessary motherboard and memory expenses. Opt for a 13700k, combine it with an affordable DDR4 board, and reuse your existing RAM. Once you have more funds and prices fall, upgrade to a better DDR5 board and RAM.

I align with @JT89. I’d follow his advice and move to DDR5 in two generations once it’s more stable. The performance gains aren’t substantial. By then, Direct Storage will exist, making it smarter to upgrade hardware like new boards or SSDs to leverage their capabilities.
