I notice how poorly ventilated most cases are, making it hard for them to function properly. Just checking the situation since there aren’t many good Ryzen M-ATX options available. I’ll have to get a new cooler, but at least I can reuse my Wi-Fi card. If I go with Ryzen, people caution me against using a 6-core board because it’s not in stock. Even if I wait for the B550, I’m not sure it will have all the features I need, especially with the PCI and PS2 ports being great additions along with the PCI-E slot next to the GPU!
MSI B450 Mortar Max paired with a Ryzen 5 3600 can surpass the Intel option in most situations, delivering better performance while being more affordable and providing all the essentials for your motherboard. Note: Holding off on the B550 might not be worthwhile since it could cost more and the B450 supports at least one additional CPU generation.
If that board could be found anywhere... Also, the ASRock Pro 4 is unavailable and not even listed on the top ordering site... The main advantage is you won’t need a new cooler, but most people opt for a new Wi-Fi card or USB adapter. I also noticed some stock non-overclocked Ryzen models lagging behind the 10600 and 10600K, and I recall Jayztwocents stating OC was superior on the K version than the Ryzen ones—though I won’t go that route since the case might be too hot for that. The clock speed only tells part of the tale. AMD offers better performance compared to Intel when they match speeds. This means AMD requires less high clock rates to achieve similar results. Currently, with Intel you still face a premium for either comparable or inferior performance. If you don’t need the PC immediately, it might be wise to hold off and wait for the B450 Mortar Max stock.
I understand, I can wait. My setup looks good, and I can check if the 10600KF is back in stock while I do that. I’m also keeping an eye on what B550 board will be available. I tried adjusting my Athlon X4 880K—it runs at 4.3GHz with NB at 2GHz, averaging around 790-810 on Cinebench R20, which is better than the previous 700-750 scores. I’m not sure if I can push it further without risking damage, so I’ll test it in Battlefield V. Hopefully I can hit over 30fps average so I can play smoothly like on PS4. OwO
