I have a vintage Pentium laptop CPU. I’m not sure if it’s worth opening, but I’d like to see the actual silicon inside.

As long as you possess a magnifying glass, but if you're referring to the whole die then yes

Most laptop CPUs lack an IHS. When you disassemble the laptop and take off the heatsink, you'll see the silicon directly.

The CPU appears in this state. Are you referring to the cooling fins as the silver component, or is it the actual silicon chip?

It shouldn't contain any solder on a CPU. If it's thermal paste or liquid metal, the issue is clear.

It's not solder, that's just weird for most laptop CPUs—you can't remove them easily. But a heat gun works fine.

They're connected by soldering, not using sockets. That's typical for a Pentium system.
