When I perform a 100mhz overclock on the base clock and boost clocks, the system freezes after less than a minute of operation. I have solid AIO watercooling, manageable temperatures, and a high-quality gold-rated PSU with ample extra wattage available.
I haven’t experimented with additional voltage, so I kept the settings on auto since it’s just 100mhz.
These are all the adjustments I made in the BIOS (my changes highlighted in red, defaults elsewhere):

Your motherboard should be a Z motherboard to allow for overclocking.

Gigabyte H97-HD3 (rev 1.0) – it seems I can't overclock much with this board. Odd that they packed so many settings there. 😕

There was a processor, a G3258, that could be overclocked using a H series chipset.
This is why the options existed.

I successfully increased the clock speed from within Windows using the gigabytes OC tool. The CPU has been running at 4.2ghz with a voltage of 1.2, and temperatures remain low without any crashes. It seems this overclock is quite stable.
