(Most of my friends using Igpu or dedicated cards see a big performance increase when plugging in, but mine doesn't respond. I own a GeForce 940mx and have tried various settings without improvement. It's been this way since purchase, and it's a Dell Latitude 5580.) A friend with a 920mx gets a boost with a 45W power supply, while I have a 100W one.)

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
When I connected it, nothing happened.
It's a Dell Latitude 5580 with a 45watt power supply, not a 100w one.
According to the manual:
https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-...lang=en-us
the laptop should have come with a 65W or 90W adapter. You have the wrong one.
(Short summary: laptop doesn't get a performance boost while charging, what should be done?)
If you bought the used model, return it. If it's brand new and within warranty, contact Dell or the seller with proof of purchase and the power adapter you received.
Adapter details:
