I bought a gaming laptop and for some reason it will not allow you to choose "boot everything to the iGPU".
There's a menu to choose per program but that's a long list and the only way to go about it is to disable the GPU in device manager. boot all my programs and then start the GPU back up, which is so janky.

What laptop is being referred to and what graphics card it uses? I'm unsure if this is feasible, but why would you ask that? Typically, the GPU should be the main graphics processor. Applications aren't very demanding, so the GPU only uses a fraction of its power during dynamic power modes.

Laptop is a ROG Zephyrus G16 (2023)
I only play RS3 and it functions well with the built-in graphics. If anything requires optimization, the GPU handles it pre-loaded. Otherwise, it defaults to rendering everything with 3D effects, even if you attempt to bypass it in NVIDIA settings. It gives the GPU a chance unless you turn it off before launching the app.

Your laptop now features advanced Optimus technology, automatically shifting between GPU and integrated graphics as needed, improving performance while maintaining efficiency. This setup enhances gaming speed, cuts down on lag, extends battery usage, and ensures a smooth display with G-SYNC refresh rate. Visit www.nvidia.com for more details. The only adjustment would be assigning the GPU to a particular game if Optimus isn't functioning properly.

thats the problem im having. theres no actual switch so theres no way to make the iGPU the default. Are there any programs out there for mux switches now that they arent a physical bios option switch you have to go toggle? its ingrained in the programmingg and you have to go into windows launch options for everything. everytime.

There's no real problem here though lol. Overthinking this much, let it be.

But you're only playing one game? If you adjust the graphics options for that specific game, what else might be causing the issue? You mentioned before that it already relies on igpu for web and video.

Right. I just think those windows won't let you in. Use the MOBO to plug the monitor in. lol.

Standard "optimus" will load everything to the igpu unless the program requires the dgpu. -solved, year later. myself. Haha, it differs from advanced optimus since advanced optimus switches everything to the dgpu when you open anything that needs it. Regular optimus defaults to igpu every time, even if a game is running on the dgpu, letting you browse the web in a window while gaming.
