Is there a RAM issue, power supply problem, or fan malfunction?
Is there a RAM issue, power supply problem, or fan malfunction?
Hi everyone,
A while back someone shared the system they purchased. They followed the recommendation and upgraded the RAM to F5-6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5N, expecting delivery this week.
A colleague who is planning a similar purchase did some research and raised a few questions that I’m curious about—could you assist with verifying these points?
For example:
64 GB RAM may not fit the Noctua FAN (or might require a different installation method)?
The 64 GB G.SKILL RAM doesn’t run smoothly without BIOS updates, especially for DDR5. Corsair Dominator would likely be a more reliable choice.
I checked the compatibility list—mainboards are listed on G.SKILL’s site, but the RAM isn’t shown there. Interestingly, the same version is listed but with XMP instead of EXPO, which seems appropriate for this configuration. Would EXPO be better suited here?

Power supply: The 850W unit is at its limit when paired with an RTX 4090. A 1000W power supply would be a safer, future-proof option.
EDIT: I also realized I’ve changed the mainboard now. I’ll post the updated component list.
Component summary:
- AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Box AM5 (4,2GHz)
- 100–100,000,000WOF
- Noctua NH-D15 CPU cooler
- Be Quiet! Dark Base Pro 901 (black)
- IGABYTE Gigabyte GA-B650E-AORUS MASTER (AM5)
- Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut heat paste (1g)
- G SKILL 64 GB DDR5-6000 RAM (2x32GB, dual kits, black, F5-6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5N, Trident Z NEO, AMD EXPO)
- Be Quiet! Netzteil Straight Power 12 850W 80+ Platinum Mod
Thank you for your help—I’d really appreciate a prompt response so I can adjust accordingly.
Someone has a suggestion. The key concerns are whether 1000 Watt would be smarter and if 64 GB (G.Skill) is a poor choice for gaming.
When working with the NH-D14 and NH-D15 series and taller RAM modules, just raise the front fan to clear the top of the DIMMs. Your case is deep enough to support this adjustment. I recommend installing Windows without XMP/EXPO enabled for a fresh setup. Configure it to 6000MT/s and hope for full stability during stress tests. If XMP issues arise, adjust the CAS timing manually by a few clock cycles—for example, change CL30 to CL32. Ensure you have the most recent BIOS for the latest AGESA updates. High-speed RAM stability and the 1.30V limit are important advantages.
Using a 7800X3D instead of an i9 13900 changes the suggested power supply requirements. An 850w unit is sufficient for your setup.
