Is there a problem with starting the system?
I started my tower today and didn’t see any screen even though it was on, not a single indicator light appeared. It seemed the machine booted up by itself during the first few attempts (four tries, no display). Once that happened, all motherboard lights came back on and the windows opened, but I still experience BSODs when playing games or browsing the web. The BSOD messages mention a memory management issue.
You can share all your details, and then we’ll begin diagnosing the issue.
My RTX 4080 and i7 14700K are brand new, so I don’t think there’s any reason to worry about them being faulty. If they’re from ASUS and Intel, they should be fine. It might just be the PSU that’s the issue.
The term new doesn't guarantee a perfect product, as defects can occur during manufacturing. The failure rate is low but not zero. Connect the cable to your motherboard port, boot Windows, and verify GPU recognition. If issues persist, it might relate to drivers. I've shared a relevant link in the thread for further details—read through everything as it could apply to your situation. You could try testing the GPU on another machine; if it works there, the problem may lie with the motherboard's PCIe slot. Then return to your PC and switch the slot to see if it resolves the issue.
Paid £1200 for an RTX 4080 Super and this shouldn't be possible. If it did, ASUS would definitely need to face serious consequences for selling faulty GPUs.
It's understandable to feel upset that defective units still appear, even though the warranty covers such issues. The fact that problems can occur means you have a strong case for a replacement, and the warranty is designed to help resolve this situation. It's definitely disappointing, but it's worth noting that the warranty is meant for this very reason.
Asus support is extremely poor. I couldn't reach them on my phone regarding the broken GPU, so I had to buy a new motherboard last year. It ended up being damaged in the CPU socket, and they returned my new board without fixing anything. I didn’t get a refund or a replacement. This clearly shows what they’re like. Just because they’re well-known doesn’t mean they value their parts or care about customer satisfaction. I shouldn’t have discarded my EVGA rig that worked perfectly—four times with Asus now feels like a mistake. I’m really frustrated and upset about this happening multiple times.
The GPU should be functioning because the red light indicates power-up on the PSU. It’s probably not the GPU itself but rather an issue with the ASUS motherboard (Z790-H gaming Wi-Fi).
