Is there a more silent method for increasing the speed?
Is there a more silent method for increasing the speed?
Hi everyone. I'm running a system I built about four years ago, with a 3930K overclocked to 4.2 GHz and cooled by a Corsair H100. I'm using a Silverstone TJ09S case. From a performance standpoint it's been working well, but the fans are extremely loud—starting up sounds like a jet taking off! I've traced the noise to the H100's fans.
I'm not very familiar with these components, but some research suggests the H100 is a common model and generally reliable. Could there be a quieter cooling option for an overclocked setup that would be more affordable? Or is it usually necessary to use powerful fans to keep the cooler running smoothly?
Thanks in advance for any guidance.
Liquid coolers vary significantly. The Corsair model, along with NZXT, TT, and several others from CLC AiO, falls on the lower end. It features a weak pump for liquid circulation and a radiator primarily constructed from aluminum. To counterbalance the reduced thickness of the fins and the aluminum material, it boasts a very high FPI (fin density), which demands substantial airflow at high static pressure and leads to considerable noise.
Furthermore, Corsair's H series coolers come with mediocre fans. For instance, the Swiftech H220 X2 AiO provides superior cooling performance with significantly less noise within the same price range. There is also a custom loop option designed specifically to meet individual requirements. In my experience, fans in the liquid loop operate at 400 RPM when idle and between 800-900 RPM during gaming—this speed is completely silent. Under heavy load, they can reach up to 1200-1300 RPM while remaining remarkably quiet.
Thanks, I took a look at Swiftech and it seems promising.
Staplergun thought about it too, but the build company warned that using it might affect overclocking—probably because they don’t want to void the warranty by altering original parts. Can I just use any fan of similar size? If you know a good one, let me know.
Good fans can be Noctua NF-F, but they are expensive. it will cost 30-50$ for a pair depending on the model. but nothing that i'm aware of can beat them in noise to performance.
They're suggesting some alternative approach, but most folks actually swap out the original fans if they're not working well. The cooling system functions, but I chose LED fans for my setup and replaced them. Just do it later.
The original fans need to be put in manually, just like any other fan. You shouldn't void the warranty unless you do something extreme—like disassembling the whole unit (the clc) or skip installing any fans at all.
well, thinking about the H220 X2 which costs around 120-130$ and includes good fans and improved performance, putting 50$ on fans alone isn't a great choice for me.
