Each year, I forward a lengthy “Happy New Year” message to my friends and family, sharing updates from the past year. Over the last three years, several contacts reported that their emails ended up in their spam folders.

Is there a method to avoid this next year?
I haven’t received any automatic reply confirming my message was flagged as spam.
I used an [at]gmail.com address for sending.
Most recipients are individuals I’ve communicated with before, which makes sense.
While the issue seems rare with acquaintances, close friends and even a brother have confirmed they found my emails in spam.
Two years ago, I sent an email to over 100 people using BCC. Last year, I attempted a fix by sending two consecutive emails each with fewer than 100 recipients, but it still appeared in many spam folders. This year, I sent two separate emails on different days, each with under 100 recipients, yet the problem persisted.

Could the email length or the number of links influence whether it’s marked as spam? Would splitting my contacts into smaller groups help?

The problem stems from the BCC setting and recipient count, which is likely the main cause. Another potential factor could be how recipients handle mail and their spam management tools. Even using Gmail’s approach for a list would probably lead to similar issues.

GMail has recently intensified its efforts against SPAM. Messages with multiple recipients (TO: or BCC) are flagged. The exact number of recipients needed to activate the filter remains confidential. Business accounts hosted online don’t face the same restrictions, but they aren’t free or cheap either. Similar constraints apply to other email services.

It can also rely on the way their email app is configured. For certain applications, adding your email to their contacts or person list can be beneficial, as it signals verification and allows messages to pass through.
