When I play Fallout 4 my internet speed goes down a lot, like 99%. Even when I use Steam with offline mode and the game runs on LAN, this same thing happens. This is normal for me because my internet speed stays that way all the time. When Fallout 4 is playing alone it uses no network at all but data usage never shows up. Task manager also doesn't say anything about using the network while running. I know Fallout 4 is a single player game and shouldn't need an internet connection, so why is this happening? It seems like when I look at my computer stats nothing appears to use the network even though it's supposed not to. My laptop has an i7 processor with 16 GB of RAM and NVIDIA graphics cards. If you need more help just ask because I really need answers here.

Do you have a specific motherboard? Many motherboards come with software that claims to "optimize" your network for gaming. That software actually slows down your downloads. It definitely sounds like something like this is running on your system. The ROG GameFirst software is just one example, but other brands make similar tools.

Is this the right one? I have an Lenovo app, but it only says wifi security. I might turn that off to check if something else happens. Thanks! Update: Nothing changed.

I can't locate exactly what model of laptop you own. Is your device connected via Ethernet, or do you use a USB adapter instead?

I feel like I got it figured out. My search goal is to see if your computer has a strong ethernet chip. You could tell by looking at the Device Manager, or maybe another piece of software will show it as being killer.
