Thank you. The budget presents a challenging decision, isn't it? I can manage it, but I don't want to squander money on unnecessary expenses! The options I've considered are around £800 plus Microsoft Office.

Thank-you
I would ideally like to keep it under £1,000 but if i need to spend more to get the right thing i can. I dont really need portability - its would just mean I could take it into the conservatory but the wi-fi is rubbish or on holiday.
Assuming the higher the single thread passmark the better. I worry about refurbs in case something is left on them that gets my data.
I do occasionally (around monthly) backup on a memory stick - is there a better way?

Simple to fix by performing a complete reset and reinstall when needed.

Tossing out your computer just because Windows 10 support ends is also a mistake
(if you're okay with reduced performance).

Not getting security updates means some tools, particularly for professional use, might need W11. Would you continue using W7?

Hi K,
I had to cut the cord and brought my laptop along with the docking station. I now own a Lenovo P72 Workstation paired with a Caldigit TS3 dock. The P72 is quite capable, but it cost me around $1800 and the dock about $300. Still, anything new under $1000 seems to offer better value than what I currently have.

Please let me share how content I am with my laptop and docking setup. I can use it anywhere in the house or while traveling. The dock only needs a single cord to connect to my laptop, and all my desktop accessories are already connected. It’s very straightforward.

I’m really pleased with the convenience my laptop provides, even while watching TV. I know desktops can be more powerful and easier to upgrade, but my laptop has worked perfectly for me. Updates and improvements have been smooth. Lenovo has built a reliable, portable device. One minor drawback is the battery life—only about two hours at most—but the power supply is light.

I’m not an employee of Lenovo and don’t own any stock, though I might consider it. I’m just looking for a solution that fits my needs better. I hope this helps with your search for an upgrade.

Kind regards,
tecknot
