Is there a key right next to mine that keeps getting stuck or hit when I press another one?
Hi everyone, I bought a used laptop that works pretty well. But it has one small issue. If I press the right arrow key sometimes, the page down key above gets pressed too. Not because I touch it with my finger! It just happens if I hit really hard. The laptop is a ThinkPad X1 Carbon model 7. Anyone know about this keyboard problem? My questions are: Can someone guess why it happens? Is there anything to fix besides replacing the keyboard? Thanks so much.
Have you looked at the Lenovo help forums yet? If this issue is common, lots of people might share their stories here, and there could be an important thread stuck at the top. First, is it just poorly made? Second, have you even talked to Lenovo support directly instead of searching online?
It's been three years since this laptop came with the box, so it's past warranty time too. I bought it as used without the original paper proof of warranty. So even if it had a good warranty before, that doesn't count because I don't have any. I never called their support team for help. My main question is what could actually be going wrong here? Maybe it's a bad part inside? Or maybe there wasn't enough room between the keys when I put my fingers down on them? I thought if this was about that, lots of people would write about it somewhere online. But I haven't found any stories like that yet. Also, is there something stuck under the lid or in the back that I can't see? Have other people had this problem with a laptop and figured out how to fix it? This is basically what my question is asking.
You don't need an active warranty to ask for help from the manufacturer. You can just tell them what happened, see if it is a known problem, or look for easy fixes. The same applies to their support forums. These aren't limited to people with valid warranty claims; they are open to everyone, like Tom's site. If others have had similar problems before, chances are the discussion has already taken place there.
If you hit the right arrow on your laptop, the spacebar above it could also get pressed. This often happens if you push down hard. If the little bit at the bottom pops out while you press up, the key is probably broken. You can try fixing it yourself by putting new parts together, but if that fails, just call the manufacturer for help.
No, nothing comes out of that key. There is no broken piece inside, and it feels like something else is wrong. I have never had a problem with this on any of my keyboards before. So maybe it's not very common. But I don't know how to fix it if I just swap the whole keyboard instead of trying something else.
