I'm searching for a more affordable laptop that isn't too delicate, suitable only for web browsing and casual games like freecell. My previous Surface Pro 4 worked but now it won't turn on and is hard to repair without damaging the screen. I need something functional but not requiring constant maintenance.

What is your budget and from which country or region are you purchasing?
If you need a highly functional item, the best choice is from Framework, though they aren't considered budget-friendly.

I tend to purchase more affordable options due to resale value. My top choice so far is an HP Envy or an HP Sceptre. The Sceptre features a metal shell which should provide durability. A common issue with many laptops is the use of metal hinges that are attached to plastic casings. While I was looking into this, I discovered some very durable notebooks, but they seem too expensive for my needs. For instance, Panasonic and Dell offer costly rugged laptops.

The HP Elitebook features durable hinges that are simple to fix, though I struggled to locate a used model with a touchscreen at a reasonable cost. Instead, I opted for an HP Envy x360 2 in 1. They seem manageable to repair, and HP provides a tutorial on replacing the hinges. Given my awareness of hinge weaknesses, I’ll handle it carefully. By the way, laptop hinges are generally robust but can easily come off their plastic shells.
