Works well are generally reliable options. Many budget models tend to be low quality touchpads, though they function technically. It seems the usual choice is to rely on Logitech products, which are pricier but include a D-pad. They can look quite unappealing.
Their more affordable models appear to match the quality of similar $15-25 keyboards found on Amazon.
My brother owns one of these, and I don’t particularly like the key arrangement, though it’s compact.

In my opinion, the Logitech Wireless K400 series is the top choice for the HTPC/living room keypad. The main constraint is distance. I’ve noticed the best performance occurs with a high-quality USB extension, positioned so there’s a clear line of sight to the keypad. This setup functions effectively up to about 15 feet, with a small margin.

Yeah, I actually own a gyro mouse too. It uses accelerometers similar to the Wii, but it's not great. It just sits there on my shelf.
