Is the Z490 worth the wait?
Is the Z490 worth the wait?
I have a Rig with an i5 6600k, MSI Z170 M7 RTX 2080 Super, Corsair Dominators RM850 (yellow label), 16X2 3200Mhz RAM. Originally I planned to upgrade to a 3900x with X570 Aurora Extreme, but there’s been news about the Z490 platform and my excitement faded a bit. I mostly play games, but since I often run multiplayer, I went for the 3900x. The 3950x is frequently out of stock. Looking for advice and opinions from others.
I’d really be eager to get the Ryzen 4000. The Ryzen 3000 is solid, but Intel still edges out in gaming thanks to better inter-ccx latency versus Ringbus. The Ryzen 4000 seems to fix that problem and boost IPC a lot. The 10th-gen Intel is cheaper and more accessible than the 9th-gen. It would have been nice if it hit the market in Q1 2019, but it’s too late now. I’d wait for it next year at the latest.
It would be a loss to let that 2080 sit idle when it could have been used during its prime... I guess. That’s probably why you avoid buying i5s, right? If you already had an i7, you’d be okay. But spending on an i7-6700k or 7700k now isn’t worth it because they’re so costly.
I am a big supporter of Ryzen 3000 but a 9700K and 9900K are simply better at gaming. Now there are quite a few caveats like what speed the Intel chip is running at, if the game is at 1080P, what graphics card, and what game but in a vacuum Intel still is the best gaming chip Like another person stated I'd wait for Ryzen 4000, wait for Ryzen 3000 and then get a 3950X on deep sale, or jump in with a Z390 knowing the platform at this point is what it is...
Yeh the main concern for me is my 2080 Super is current heavily bottle-necked by my 6600K. And me being a genius and not doing enough research on OCing, I've been using MSI z170 M7 mobo Game Boost OC, where it feeds a stupid amount of volts to hit 4.5ghz, and my cpu been chowing down on tat much voltage for years. Buying a 6700k/ 7700k is abit mad, prices are quite ridiculous for an old chip =( Ryzen 4000 series is really tempting but the stipulated date is like Q4 2020, and for z490 news prob next week but by the time its out and rolling prob in April 2020. Thank you all for the advise. At the end of the day, there is always a next best thing down the road, hard to keep waiting and waiting hahah!
