Is the Windows 11 update process currently blocked?
Some time ago I upgraded my W10 system to W11 on my Desktop using one of the methods for updating even though the PC didn’t meet all Microsoft requirements. I don’t remember exactly which method I used—I got it from a YouTube video. Everything worked initially, but a few weeks later I began encountering issues when trying to access various websites, receiving timeout messages. I tried several solutions without success, and the number of errors kept rising over time.
Later, unrelated errors started appearing with Steam, which repeatedly claimed an internet connection was needed even though the Desktop was connected. Then, I made a significant mistake while adjusting the W11 installation, causing the system to revert back to W10. The upgrade attempt failed again, and I ended up playing around with my setup where W11 was installed, but now I have no access to Windows. I’ve created a bootable W11 disk, yet when I try to use it, the system displays a message indicating it detected a previous upgrade failure and refuses to accept further attempts.
I’m hoping to be able to boot into Windows to inspect my drives, as the W11 installation process had reported that W1 couldn’t be installed on any of my drives. I’m assuming this might be related to what I did. I just want to ensure my backup data on the spare drives is still intact.
Please let me know if you can help find a solution.
Thanks
P.S. I’m considering replacing my 256 M2 SSD and wondering if I’ll face the same problems again with the software.
Some time ago I upgraded my W10 system to W11 on my Desktop using one of the methods for updating even if the PC didn’t meet all Microsoft requirements. I don’t remember which method I used—I got it from a YouTube video. Here are the details of your build:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
Monitor:
Please include the age of the PSU along with its make and model. Also, the BIOS version for your motherboard at this time.
If you upgraded to Windows 11 via the internal upgrade path found in Windows 10, it’s recommended to reinstall Windows 11 after creating a bootable USB installer for the new OS and installing the operating system with all drives disconnected, except the one you want to install on.
You may attempt to boot from a Win10 USB and opt for the repair utility instead of installing, which could restore access to the Windows 10 drive without needing a full reformat. Additionally, check if your Windows 10 (or 11) is connected to your Microsoft account; if so, you can install on a new drive and activate it using your credentials. However, depending on the situation, you may not be able to proceed with Windows 11 even after fixing Win10. It seems Microsoft has implemented restrictions for certain hardware requirements.
If all other options in this thread don’t work then, of course...
My recommendation would be to. Nuke it from Orbit.
back up data
delete partitions
reformat drives
security harden pre network connections
operating system and security program updates
then reinstall your programs and data.
It’s enjoyable for me at this stage.
