Karadjgne shared his thoughts on performance settings. He mentioned that hairworks and PhysX are tough on an i5, but not on a 4.5ghz processor like his 6600k. He explained that with his 1080ti at 1440p, he can keep hairworks enabled without dropping below 60fps. He only turned it off when playing in 4K. He believes the issue is more about his GPU limiting him rather than the software. He also noted that PhysX performs well on a 6600k when using GPU acceleration. For grass and 1080, he didn’t notice much difference. He suggested upgrading to a 6700k if the player wants high refresh rates or better performance, especially with an 8th gen Intel CPU. He recommended a new GPU for VR games if they become more demanding.

He concluded by saying the OP should only upgrade if he needs:
1) game streaming
2) consistently above 60fps (requiring a stronger GPU)
3) heavy video encoding
4) 3D editing

Otherwise, a better GPU would be the best choice.

He added that today’s games don’t yet demand an I7 and that VR games might improve soon, but they’re still lagging. He also mentioned his 6600k runs perfectly on Vive, and he hopes VR fidelity will catch up eventually.
