Is the Ryzen 7 3700X with 4.4Ghz all-core optimized for overclocking?
Received my 3700x at 4.4GHz via manual OC using a 1.3725v LLC medium. The main concerns are the PPT rising to 150% during Cinebench, CPU reaching 128%, EDC at 100%, CPU power hitting 103W, and temperature staying under 75°C (6°C lower than auto volt). Also, benchmark score improved by about 500 points (5227). What do you think?
Thanks guys for the info, so you think these.
PPT
TDC (CPU)
Voltages going above 100% are fine then? That was my worry.
Btw I'm using the x570 TUF gaming board, I got it because of the beefy VRM.
As long as your temps are good no problem. Temps can go to 70-75c, maybe even 80c (Tjmax is 95c) and be just fine. Only if you are on auto boost (PBO) they should go no more than 62-65c for best boost.
What do you use your PC for? That's certainly a good OC, but I question whether you'll actually see any real difference in performance. And there are some reports that max safe voltage for all core OC with high current loads is ~1.325 V.

Gaming mainly, I wasn't achieving 4.4 Ghz with auto settings even on single core and the temperatures were similar to those in the 80s, just not reaching that level now with all cores at 4.4Ghz. I might experiment by lowering the Vcore to 1.325 to find out the maximum OC possible, expecting around 4.2-4.3. Some games I play use 4 or more cores, others don't, so it's a mixed situation. I also use Winzip quite often and sometimes Blender.
Just restarted Windows with identical OC and voltage at 1.325v, it booted up. After clicking R20 Cinebench and running it, it completed a full test with a score of 5207. I'm planning to check how much lower the Vcore can be reduced, possibly finding a better Sample CPU.
Hey everyone. I might have a solid chip too; seem to be hitting stability at 4.3ghz @1.375 with .05 offset. Not sure if it really matters, but I turned off PBO since X370 is quite old and I'm using XFR/PBO. I also set both LLC controls to '1' to avoid droop. I'm using a Corsair H80i v2 AIO cooler. Cinebench R20 shows a max temp of 5020, which is around 89°C—perfect for me. Maybe I'll push closer to 4.35ghz next or keep it steady and lower the voltage. I'm also thinking about adding a BCLK OC on top of this setup. It's nice to see X370 still getting support from AMD and board makers.
