In the living area you can position it fairly centrally (not tucked behind a desk in a corner), which should adequately cover the upstairs space. The antenna gain and receive sensitivity are both very good. If not, you can purchase an additional Audience that will connect to the first one automatically and extend its range without any bandwidth loss. At least this aligns with everyone else's opinion—you need a device that supports AC power, and wireless N isn’t sufficient.
