Hey everyone,

I bought the Lenovo on sale: a Lenovo LOQ 15.6" Gaming Laptop with FHD AMD Ryzen 7 7435HS, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060, 8GB memory, and 512GB SSD, Luna Grey 83JC0000US from Best Buy.

I also considered the HP i but it was around $1300, so I decided against it. The HP model I picked is the Victus 16.1" Gaming Laptop with AMD Ryzen 7-8845HS, 16GB DDR5 RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070, 512GB SSD, Mica Silver 16-s1023dx from Best Buy.

Now the HP is priced at $899 with a 4070 instead of the Lenovo 4060. The power consumption seems to be lower for the 4060 (105W vs 4070’s 115W). When I play 7 Days to Die, my CPU usage drops to about 30-40% while the GPU runs at full capacity.

I might need someone to help cover the cost difference until I can return it if necessary. Elder Scrolls Online occasionally drops to around 70 fps, but it’s still fun. So, is it worth the effort to return or should I stick with what I have?

In general, when playing 7 Days to Die, my CPU stays around 30% to 40% while the GPU runs at full capacity. First, I’d check if there’s a pending BIOS update on my Lenovo and if my operating system needs an update. Then, I could try using DDU to remove all GPU drivers (Intel, AMD, Nvidia) in Safe Mode, and manually reinstall the newest driver from Nvidia’s support site with administrator privileges. Also, I noticed both laptops have the same resolution and refresh rate except for a slightly bigger screen on the HP. I wouldn’t bother returning the laptop if you’re willing to pay for another one; if you offered to return it and the next one would be covered by the outlet plus some store credit, I’d recommend going for the free upgrade.

I will consider your suggestions. It’s not a free upgrade, it would add $100 at the end. Not bad, but the whole process or seeking assistance to cover the faster HP is a concern. I’m in debt until the refund is processed, but I don’t know how long Best Buy would take. I’ll definitely update the drivers for sure! Thank you for your time and help!
