I owned a PC with these specifications:
Mobo: ASRock B550M Pro SE AM4 DDR4
PSU: Super Flower Legion GX Gold PRO 750W 80+ Gold
GPU: Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 1080
RAM: Unknown brand, DDR4 3200mhz
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5500
Storage: Two 1TB M.2 drives, brands irrelevant
It functioned properly until a lightning strike damaged an Ethernet cable that ran outside, passing through the router and modem before reaching the PC. Afterward, it wouldn’t power on. Without a spare unit, I decided to bring it to a local repair shop for diagnosis. They diagnosed the motherboard as faulty and noted the PSU was showing unusual readings, though it might still be usable.

They replaced the motherboard, but the issue persisted—no response when turning the power button on. I rechecked all connections, tried reseating cables, used a screwdriver trick, reset the power switch, and even reset the motherboard battery. I’m certain there wasn’t any physical contact causing a short circuit.

I’m unsure what else to try. I don’t want to waste parts randomly in hopes of finding a working one. It seems unlikely the RAM is the problem since it doesn’t respond at all.

It functioned properly until a lightning strike damaged an outside Ethernet cable. The signal passed through the router and modem into the PC. I suspect the motherboard’s connections were destroyed. It might help to move the processor to another functional board with the correct BIOS to check if it starts up. This way, you can confirm whether the issue lies with the processor or other components. A local exchange could be useful if you lack friends or neighbors who can swap parts for testing.

A fresh make and model for the mobo has been released, though I’m not sure what came before—it was full ATX while this one is matx. I’m starting to believe everything might be faulty. I’m considering swapping out the CPU next; if the rest works fine, removing the RAM should at least let the system power on briefly and have the fans run for a moment before shutting down. Also, just checking—when using the screwdriver power-on trick, should I touch it to the two prongs in the top right as shown in this image? https://imgur.com/hc0MFI4 View: https://i.imgur.com/hc0MFI4.png I’m also curious if replacing my case is necessary.
