Is the motherboard BIOS unable to detect the M2.2 SSD?
Hi all! I just finished my second ever build, my first one was 8 years ago so it's been a while haha.
I've got as far as everything booting with no issues and now I'm stuck in BIOS.
I moved my SanDisk X400 128 GB M.2-2280 SSD with Windows 10 installed from my old build to my new one and installed it into the m2_2 slot of my motherboard and it's not detected at all.
My HDD is in Sata 6 as my motherboard manual states Sata 5 isn't available if using M2_2.
I've seen a lot of discussion about changing from UEFI to CSM to fix this issue but that doesn't seem to fix it either?? At least, when I change to CSM it says "select boot device" and doesn't show my SSD as an option.
I'm confident it's installed correctly, but I'll be unscrewing it shortly after posting this, hoping I can find some help on more things to try.

Thank you so much in advance, this build has been such a headache, today is my birthday and I just want it completed so I can play games whilst I still have a day off of work!
Place your M.2 drive into the M2_2 port and adjust the BIOS settings to SATA mode.
If it’s installed in the M2_1 slot, the drive won’t function there because it uses AHCI (SATA) while M2_1 only supports NVMe drives.
Formatting the drive and performing a clean Windows installation are essential steps.
You cannot reuse your operating system afterward; otherwise, you’ll encounter problems such as BSoD and potential complete corruption of the OS and data on the installation drive.
It is placed in the M2_2 slot yet I cannot locate an option in the BIOS to switch it to SATA mode. The only M2 settings available are Gen1, 2, 3, 4 or "Auto," which is currently active. I am unable to find any additional M2 configurations. Regarding a fresh Windows installation, do I need to purchase it again? Fortunately, the problematic SSD is just a boot drive, so I will lose a few programs but not important data. I am willing to perform a clean install if I can retain my copy. Is this device linked to my Microsoft account?
If you linked the installation to your MS account, you may disable the license from that account, reinstall OS, and then use the same activation key to reactivate your system again.
Note: Only one device can be activated at once. Before activating a new version, you need to deactivate any previous setup.
I reviewed the MoBo BIOS manual myself and couldn't find a way to switch the M2_2 slot between NVMe and AHCI mode.
I recommend creating a topic in the MSI official forums and asking MSI experts directly about changing the M2_2 slot configuration,

Occasionally, I've also sought assistance on the official MSI forums regarding MSI MoBos issues. Helpful people there.
Currently, there are two possible scenarios:
#1 Your drive is functional but you can't enable the M2_2 slot in AHCI (SATA mode).
#2 The drive is non-functional (for example, it failed during transfer) and therefore doesn't appear in the BIOS.
I really value your response! I've shared my question there, so I hope I find a solution.
Thanks!
A useful action would be connecting this TH topic in MSI forums, allowing people there to review it instead of repeating troubleshooting steps. They will also be able to identify where the troubleshooting process stopped.
