Is the Dell 1545 slow when it starts up?
My Dell 1545 has been working well for years with very few problems. I had to change out the Wi-Fi card and hard drive just so it would keep running. The computer is running Linix-Lite 7.4. It has 4 GB of memory that passed the on-board test. The CPU is an Intel 9600 (an upgrade) and a digital 350 GB hard drive. Now, the laptop takes too long to start up—about four minutes instead of the usual sixty seconds. That's not normal for this model. While the new silver heat sink compound on the CPU keeps it at 110 degrees F while you use a video, the cooling fan is working and will speed up if needed. There is no dust leaking from the exchanger and the system looks clean. Every once in a while, the laptop locks up. A restart fixes it for several hours or even a day. I've tried swapping out the hard drive again, but the problem comes back. I'm not sure what's wrong? Is it the CPU, the Wi-Fi card, or the memory? When the laptop first powers on, the Dell software starts instantly, then the screen turns blue with a blinking cursor in the top left corner of the display. The computer runs for four minutes before finally booting to the home page. There is no spinning wheel or signs that anything is happening during startup, but once it reaches the home page, it goes back to normal speed until it locks up or I turn it off. Thanks for any helpful info!
