Is the DCOM Server Process Launcher experiencing a 5% CPU usage issue?
Hello there! I'm dealing with a week-long problem. I cleaned the GPU drivers using DDU in safe mode, ran the sfc scannow and DISM tools, and unplugged everything except the mouse. Even then, the issue persisted. I also turned off live tiles, which I hadn't used before, and there were no question marks in the Device Manager. The CPU was running nonstop, generating extra heat on the laptop, with usage staying between 5-6%. If fixing it isn't possible, can I safely just ignore it?
No write or read disks, no internet access either—just monitoring CPU usage. I also scanned my system with Bitdefender AV and sent svchost.exe to VirusTotal, which showed it as safe. Right-clicking the DCOM process group revealed an open file location pointing to svchost.exe in system32.
The process group includes entries like "background task something," "Plug and Play," "Power," and "Event System something."
Laptop Specs:
- OS: Windows 10 22H2 (latest)
- CPU: AMD 6800H with Radeon 680M iGPU
- GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3070 Ti
What should I do? Thanks.
What is the brand, model, and SKU of your laptop? Have you verified if there are any pending BIOS updates?
CPU activity remains at a maximum of 5-6%. If this cannot be resolved, may I safely disregard it?
Have you attempted to disable items in the Startup section?
It looks like the problem disappeared for reasons I don’t understand. Maybe because I just installed the latest monthly updates for Windows 10 along with some Net Framework 4.5 patches. Also, using my external 5TB HDD at that time and turning off the machine a bit before then, so the external SSD was probably not causing issues. Who knows. Windows is a complicated system these days.
