Hi,
I’m planning to upgrade my PC later this year after my current build has been experiencing problems. I have the following specs for the new gaming machine: AMD 7950X3D, RTX 4090, and 32 GB of RAM. I’m considering whether my existing Corsair HX1050 PSU will still work or if I need to purchase a different one.

I’m also curious about switching from the RTX 40 series to the RX 7900 XTX. My goal is to keep the system running for about eight years, similar to my current setup. If I really need a new PSU, would you suggest something with a power rating of 1000 W or more?

I’m leaning toward a black and white theme build and have heard good things about the Seasonic Focus GX-1000. What about the Phanteks AMP 1000W model? Are there any solid options rated at 1200 W or higher in black and white? This isn’t a strict requirement, just something I’d like to consider.

Thanks!

HX was a solid choice, yet it wasn't built for the larger power surges typical of a 4090. It's also quite old—nearly a decade past its prime—so your warranty might be limited or nearing its end. It's time to upgrade. Corsair still produces quality components, though the white RM850x is quite costly.

All white Superflower Leadex V models lack a standard 12VHPWR connector.

Right now, I’d likely opt for the Thermaltake:

A Focus GX would also fit, but you’d need to purchase the appropriate 12VHPWR cable or use the included adapter.

Thank you for your suggestion. Previously, I assumed a 1000 W power supply would suffice for the upcoming project, only to discover it was overwhelmed by a 600 W GPU. "You're welcome," I heard from the background case fans humming loudly. "Be sure to purchase an expensive cable that matches our new socket." Thanks for pointing it out.

I learned the Phanteks AMP PSU is actually a rebranded version of the SeaSonic Focus GX, as their marketing messages are quite similar. I’m considering getting the AMP v 2 unless the 12VHPWR cable comes with the Focus GX during my next build this year.

Is there any RX 7900 in white? I haven’t been able to locate one using Google searches.

hasn't been noticed. It appears that only Nvidia cards are usually manufactured in white.
