It seemed a bit concerning, so I just need to verify everything is secure. I’m thinking about taking the fan off, but I don’t want to do it.

As long as the cable remains somewhat flexible, it's okay. Avoid stretching it too much, like piano wire or guitar strings, which can cause problems. Slightly loosening it increases the chance of friction against the fan blades, possibly leading to damage.
